Delicious has announced a beta rollout of private bookmarks called ‘Private Saving’. Simply go to your settings and enable the option by clicking on, you guessed it, ‘Private saving’. You will then find the option to make private when you next bookmark a page.
Apart from the obvious, i.e. hiding from people what you definitely shouldn’t be looking at, there are more legitimate reasons for people requesting this feature. For example, hiding logins to company intranets or networks, logins to CMS systems and personally I have always been hesitant to bookmark my banks and other financial institutions for fear of advertising this to the wrong people.
Congratulations to Delicious to listening to the user and implementing this feature. There is obviously a concern that the quality of the network will be damaged but its doubtful and they have assured us they will monitor the situation.
Ah that reminds me, the Del.icio.us How To: part 2………

Where can i find the privat bookmarks? In the main-list they are not visible. The tags of them are visible in the taglist, but no entries…?
Click on your settings in the top right hand corner and then under experimental in the right hand column you’ll see ‘private saving’. Click on it and activate the setting. Then when you post your bookmarks there will be a do not share tick box. Listings in your bookmarks that are private, when you are logged in, will be labeled ‘not shared’ in bright red. For easier recalling of your private bookmarks, try tagging them with ‘private’ or something.
