Downtime
All my sites went down today for about 60mins around 5pm (GMT) with my host denying all knowledge. Not the end of the world but a reasonable explanation would have been appreciated. Especially as this is the 7th day this month there has been some length of downtime! I have been putting it off for ages but a few more issues and poor responses from my host and I might end up making the move. Where do you recommend?

With Box.net and regular backups to DVD, I think (hope) I have covered most eventualities on my PC and disaster recovery should be a relatively straight forward process.
One of the areas I have less control over though, is the hosting of my web sites. While my hosting company has a backup solution integrated into their hosting packages there is still the risk of loosing all my hard work! Not the stuff of nightmares, I mean the risk is low but for sheer peace of mind, there is an answer.
Shuttle, the much needed ‘beautification of the WordPress Administration Panel’, is slowly becoming a reality it seems though the most movement appears to be unofficially from Mark over at the Sidejob. As Khaled, one of the original designers, highlights, ‘ WordPress is a community EFFORT.‘ and Mark seems to be doing a great job of implementing it on his own install.
While still a long way from finished, you can keep track on Marks blog of his interpretation of what will become the official dashboard of Wordpress in the future. Kudos for his initiative who knows he may just be involved in implementing this long overdue overhaul of the admin panel.
Derek over at 5ThirtyOne, pointed out this quality Ajax spellchecker for WordPress. Corrector, from Vanus01.net, is quite simply an excellent, must have plugin. Simply download and extract the zip into your plugin directory, upload and activate from your plugins panel on the dashboard. Available in 27 lingual flavours there really is no excuse for badly sletp posts again.
coComment have released an extension that automatically tracks your comments to your account, eliminating
the need to click on the bookmarklet. Additionally it also notifies you when people have commented on the same posts as you with an icon in the status bar at the bottom of the browser.
This excellent service’s value just keeps increasing in my opinion. Typically with a real sense of community; Amit recently released a Wordpress plugin making it even easier to integrate this service into your blog. Take a look…..
