I don’t think I need to give a big intro into Newsvine at the moment as there are great introductions available such as the one over at SolutionWatch. Mike Davidson is CEO of Newsvine and introduced Newsvine officially last week and quite rightly appears to have caused quite a stir with 104,655 page views in their first full day and a no.2 ranking on Technorati.
I received my invite to this social news site a few days ago and signed up rather sceptically, more out of curiosity than anything else.

There are rumours circulating that Yahoo may be interested in acquiring social bookmarking/ technology site Digg. Rodney Smith blogged about this about three weeks ago and Thomas Hawk’s added his argument and slant on this subject.
Personally I think adding Digg to their existing social networking stable of products would make enormous business sense for Yahoo. Digg, a tech news site with an existing user base and undeniable potential for expansion into other subject areas, seems an irresistible acquisition. As mentioned before I firmly believe the future of web search is not solely with the best algorithm but how well it’s integrated with the human element of such social networking sites. The question that remains is whether Digg and the VC’s that invested would be willing to talk business.
It’s been a long time coming, but Email, or rather the apps and applets that provide it, are developing into services that people will enjoy to use rather be forced to use. The advent of RSS can be seen as a significant advantage for virtually anyone who browses the web, it simply a matter implementing it right.
Podcasting, a format to publish rich media like audio and ultimately video by use of RSS, has come of age in 2005 with an estimated world wide audience of 4.8m people compared with just 800k in 2004. As main stream media giants begin to see the benefits of this emerging technology and bandwidth becomes more readily available (broadband internet access has overtaken dial up in the UK for the first time this year), using RSS perhaps combined with bit torrent will become the formats to publish video. For now I am enjoying this, not so amateur, radio that is easily downloaded directly to my PC and walkman.
Whoot, Del.icio.us is up and running again! After Del.icio.us has been down, on and off, for the last week I was delighted to find this morning it up and running again. With the initial power outages that disrupted their datacenter and the resulting problems that snowballed around them, I am very relieved to find what appears to be no loss of data, certainly to my account anyway. It has made me realise how much I appreciate this valuable service though and how much I rely on it.
