Ebay Spoof Email

I consider myself pretty wise to all the scams that I come across on the web. One of my email accounts for instance must be on every spammer and blaggers list known to man. Its an old account that I rarely send anything from but keep open in case anyone from years gone by tries to contact me. It must be daily that I get a phishing email or scam of some sort in this account and I can normally spot them a mile off (dodgy links and badly designed). Until today!

Clockr – Stylish Time

Clockr has really caught my attention recently (I think I am getting a design bug). Its a 24 hour clock that is made in Flash and composed from some bright, bold images found on Flickr. I think its the simplicity of the idea that has really got my interest – download the screensaver if you like it.

9rules Philosophy

There was quite an interesting post on David Peralty’s blog, Pheonixrealm, yesterday about the relative benefits of the 9rules network. The post really developed into an interesting interview come debate when Mike Rundle and Paul Scrivens added their comments. Take a look……

Interestingly the follow up post on Davids blog stated that the traffic generated from the newly launched Newsvine site, “has been creating almost two times the traffic” compared to the follow up post on the 9rules blog.

50 Milliseconds to Loose Your Reader?

I found an interesting article seeded by Jaap Schreurs on Newsvine about first impressions with websites and how quickly it takes us to make a decision on whether we like the aesthetics or not. The article, on nature.com, goes on to comment on the ‘Halo Effect’ of well designed sites that if it is deemed attractive then it will be looked on favourably,  minor problems could be ignored and the articles favoured more. With these decisions taking place within 50 milliseconds – it doesn’t give you much time to keep the viewer with your content.

‘The Social Newsroom’, Newsvine – First Impressions

I don’t think I need to give a big intro into Newsvine at the moment as there are great introductions available such as the one over at SolutionWatch. Mike Davidson is CEO of Newsvine and introduced Newsvine officially last week and quite rightly appears to have caused quite a stir with 104,655 page views in their first full day and a no.2 ranking on Technorati.

I received my invite to this social news site a few days ago and signed up rather sceptically, more out of curiosity than anything else.
