Nintendo DS Lite Announced

Nintendo appears to have taken a leaf out of Apple’s book and announced a slimmed down ‘Lite’ version of their best selling Nintendo DS. A fully featured DS2 has been announced by Nintendo President Satoru Iwata today with a March 2nd release though there has been no confirmed date for the US and European territories.

"Also featuring brighter screens, Nintendo DS Lite will launch in Japan in March. Nintendo DS Lite will be less than two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and more than 20 percent lighter."

Quick Review: Performancing 1.1 Firefox Extension

Nick Wilson and Jed Brown have released their latest version of the Performancing Firefox Extension. 1.1 is a bigger and better version of their Blog editor that integrates with Firefox to help us blog more effieciently.Aimed squarely at the same userbase Flock (see earlier review) is aiming at, Performancing now has support for most of the major blogging solutions such as WordPress, Drupal and Live Journal. Integrating tags and your categories, the extension allows you to blog quickly on the topics that get your attention. Performancing sits comfortably at the bottom of Firefox incorparating many of the settings that you find in your admin panels in a window that is both easily height adjustable and collapsible at the press of the F8 key.

Dual Boot OS X and Windows on the new iMac’s – Not Yet!

Apple LogoArs Technica has a pretty in depth review of the new iMac 17" Core Duo; one of the first Intel based Macs to hit the stores. Looks like a pretty impressive machine, high spec and of course well designed but it seems until the specific ‘Intel’ coded software arrives there isn’t gonna be a major reason to buy at this point.

50 Milliseconds to Loose Your Reader?

I found an interesting article seeded by Jaap Schreurs on Newsvine about first impressions with websites and how quickly it takes us to make a decision on whether we like the aesthetics or not. The article, on nature.com, goes on to comment on the ‘Halo Effect’ of well designed sites that if it is deemed attractive then it will be looked on favourably,  minor problems could be ignored and the articles favoured more. With these decisions taking place within 50 milliseconds – it doesn’t give you much time to keep the viewer with your content.

Macworld Keynote: 100 Sold Every Minute, 24/7

For all the hype surrounding the build Apple’s Keynote speech it struck me from a  tech perspective, a disappointment. For all the excitement about the next big thing, I felt there was little innovation, perhaps evolution but nothing radically new. What really got my attention was the justification for their share jump (perhaps the result of past innovation maturing?).
