E3 ‘06: Sony PS3 Details and Pricing

It seems there will be two versions of the forthcoming PS3, much like the two incarnations of the Xbox360. The first, a 20GB hard disk version will be the basic version, offering the same essential functionality but without some of the frills.

The second has the previously announced and more respectable, 60GB hard disk and will also offer Wi-Fi functionality. The ‘premium’ model will also offer slots for memory sticks, SD cards and compact flash cards and have a more extensive range of ports. Though less than expected and demo’d at last years E3, the ‘premium’ PS3 will have one HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) port, 4 USB and one Ethernet ports. Clearly this is the model to go for when considering linking up to your brand spanking new High Def TV, HDMI offers considerably more bandwidth with its uncompressed digital signal than more traditional cables, though the omission of a second port is a disappointment.

F.E.A.R Expansion Pack Announced

Fear, probably my favourite game of the year that opened my eyes to what can be achieved with what was a stale genre, has had an expansion pack announced by Sierra Entertainment. ‘Extraction Point’ is thought to logically pick up where the original finished and is expected to be a link to a sequel that is surely going to follow. New locations, weapons and enemies….. my mouth is watering already. Bring on the previews at E3!

Apple Releases Boot Camp: Xp and Linux Installs

For those who haven’t heard, Apple yesterday sensationally announced their Boot Camp software, allowing you to dual boot to Windows XP (Home or Pro). The software is available in beta form at the moment though it is scheduled for an official release in the next version of the next major version of Mac OS X, Leopard.

It might be worth all you gamers from holding fire just yet though. Michael over at Binary Bonsai has got the system up and running on his Mac Mini and as suspected this clearly isn’t gonna be the Mac gaming rig of choice. Early reports on the iMac are proving to be much better and when the video drivers are optimised results are likely to be much improved.

How To: Replace the Joystick Unit on your PSP

The need to replace my joystick came about after a heavy gaming session over Christmas mostly by my brother Oli. After a marathon Virtua Tennis session the PSP was passed to me and after about my first serve the joystick finally gave in and I was left with a pretty unusable PSP. As I had imported it 9 months earlier from Japan I didn’t fancy sending it all the way back to be repaired and thought I could have a go at repairing it.

A First Person Distraction!

The lack of posts I can put down to a number of reasons, primarily the fact that I have been busy with various websites over the last few weeks and am struggling to manage my time. Ok, really that is only part of the reason, the other is that i have just decided to hook myself back into the PC gaming market and my true gaming love, first person shooters (FPS).
