Google to integrate Chat into Gmail

It looks like Google will be integrating Gtalk, their IM client, into Gmail in the next few days. I found this on the main gmail login page.

Chat with your friends from right inside Gmail. There’s no need to load a separate program or look up new addresses. It’s just one click to chat with the people you already email, as well as anyone on the Google Talk network. And now you can even save and search for chats in your Gmail account. "

How to: Del.icio.us Part 1

This is part I of a II part guide to making the most of Delicious, the social bookmarking service.  Part I is intended as a ‘Getting Started’ or a ‘Beginners Guide’ to Delicious, pitched at the user who has never heard of Delicious or has just signed up (its free). Part II will follow, though a continuation, it is aimed at the more experienced web user who’s interested in developing the way they use Delicious to make the most of this excellent service and the extras that have been made available.

“Del.icio.us?… Social Bookmarking?… pfft! What’s all the fuss about?”

Internet Explorer 7: FireFox Writer’s Thoughts

Asa Dotzler has a pretty detailed write up on the merits of IE7 and the initial problems that have been found. Covering the new layout, features like tabbed browsing, searching and subscriptions, it’s a pretty detailed review and initial impressions. Its worth mentioning that this is from one of the original people behind Firefox though, so it is written from a Firefox zealot’s perspective!

I personally haven’t had a good enough chance to make the most of the preview yet so can’t make an informed comment though this is an interesting read.

‘Google X’ and is there New Google Layout / Interface on the way?

First up is Google X, an OSX inspired front end for Google, using some slick javascript and incorporating virtually the whole of their catalogue of tools and services its a pretty feat for a 17 year old! This leads me onto the subject of the new Google layout that’s being talked about a bit at the moment. Slightly more likely to actually make it into their search engine, a screen shot is available here. Nothing major but I quite like the simplicity they’re still going for, while increasing on the features and usability. – On a side note this image has been hit in excess of 45,000 times since the 25th and got 30,000 in the first two days – that’s got to be one reason to be thankful of Yahoo’s involvement in the infrastructure of Flickr!

After last weeks IE beta leak onto the Internet, Microsoft has officially relelased Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview. Available to download here it will be interesting to see Microsoft’s view of the future for web browsing and how the browser copes with modern web design such as CSS2 and CSS3. There is a newsgroup available to post your bugs and suggestions. "And so begins the second great browser war……"
