Internet Explorer 7: Public Beta 2 Released

After last weeks IE beta leak onto the Internet, Microsoft has officially relelased Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview. Available to download here it will be interesting to see Microsoft’s view of the future for web browsing and how the browser copes with modern web design such as CSS2 and CSS3. There is a newsgroup available to post your bugs and suggestions. "And so begins the second great browser war……"

Firefox Extension: Web Developer Toolbar

Web Developer screensThe Web Developer 1.0.1, by Chris Pederick, is not a new toolbar but it has got to be one of my most valued Firefox extensions. Also available for Flock and Mozilla, the current release was made available on the 23rd January and is compatible with any platform that the browser supports. For those who haven’t come across this extension it adds powerful web development tools right into the browser window turning your browser into a quality testing tool. Highlights include the handy CSS editor that allows you to view, modify and save the CSS file of the site you are viewing. Further the toolbar includes the ability to turn off java script, view structural elements of the page, and validate css & html all at the touch of a button. The feature I used the most would have to be the ability quickly resize the browser to other ‘resolutions’. This toolbar should be in any web developer’s toolkit!

How to: Clear Type Fonts in XP

I have recently taken the plunge and purchased a new 19 inch LG Flatron monitor. Using the excuse that I am doing much more Photoshop and Dreamweaver work I decided that it would be a good idea and am pretty happy with outcome. Moving from a 17” CRT, you can imagine the difference and it has been quite refreshing experience. With the higher resolution (1280 x 1024 compared with 1024 x 768), the monitor has undoubtedly made a significant improvement to my productivity.

I can take the marginal drop in quality with the advantages gained (in desk space alone) but really wanted to make the most of it of my LCD display.

More Yahoo and Digg Rumours……

DiggMore and more rumours are circulating about Digg being snapped up by the Web 2.0 harvester that is Yahoo. $30m is the figure circulating and my point of view is there is no smoke without fire. Both the Search Engine Journal and Techcrunch have posted on this along with countless others recently and I, for one, am keen to see this happen. I posted more on this subject over two weeks ago and have touched on the benefits in another post. According to Kevin Burton’s blog, it’s not a matter of if but when and the announcement could be as soon as next week!

A fully featured DS2 has been announced by Nintendo President Satoru Iwata today with a March 2nd release though there has been no confirmed date for the US and European territories.

Nintendo DS Lite Open and Closed

"Also featuring brighter screens, Nintendo DS Lite will launch in Japan in March. Nintendo DS Lite will be less than two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and more than 20 percent lighter."
